In general Reunion is safe. But as a tourist you must respect some simple principles, don't walk around at night, don't show signs of riches (jewels on your body) and don't try to resist in case of aggression. Most of crimes here are linked with alcoholic behaviors. From any mobile (even if not connected to the GSM network) you can call the emergency service 112.
